Church Farm Care Wellbeing Support & Provision

Our current provision

Wellness sessions are facilitated monthly in each of our nursing homes between 8am and 4pm, times outside of this provision can be arranged directly with Liz. The sessions are free of charge, and can be used for wellbeing, healthcare, coaching, or as a listening and signposting service. All sessions are confidential.

Liz is a qualified coach, nurse, mental health first aider and can help with bereavement support. Liz is also a qualified menopause support nurse advisor. Professional coaching conversations can also be booked to support staff with career development, nurse revalidation, professional nurse advocacy or personal development.

Church Farm Care take the well-being and health of staff members seriously and dedicate time and resources to build this into our approach of all people matter.

One to one support; appointments are available for staff to seek help individually, which has proved very popular particularly with staff working through very personal issues, who do not know what other support is available, or who have no family support away from work. The demand for this type of support has increased throughout 2024 with the upturn in staff on sponsorship contracts.

Drop-in sessions are available for individuals or a couple of people to attend together, that have been accessed by friends when for example, they are experiencing menopause or other health issues. These sessions remain popular, Liz is a trained Menopause Nurse Advisor and a Mental Health First Aider and a registered nurse.

Professional Nurse Advocate sessions became available to trained nurses and senior staff, in 2023. Liz teaches on the Professional Nurse Advocate course at University of Lincoln as an Associate Lecturer in the Post Graduate Nursing Department.

Support for relatives of family members is also available usually at the home managers discretion, the managers are often best placed to sense when some families need support. One to one support is available to relatives who are struggling perhaps with understanding their loved one’s dementia journey. Support for staff working through diplomas or any training courses can access small group support as and when required, usually at the beginning of course until their confidence is low.

Liz is an experienced occupational health nurse advisor and has been a smoking cessation advisor and is able to support staff if they want support with weight management or quit attempts. She is happy to check blood pressure readings and provide support with healthy lifestyle advice.

Our history of wellbeing support

Church Farm Care introduced a mental health and well-being approach for staff in 2018. This was facilitated by Liz Norton our Training Learning and Development Manager. The provision has adapted over the years and is very responsive to the needs of the staff and relatives of family members. Although Liz left employment with CFC in 2021, she continued to have a special relationship with CFC and support this

provision and continues to adapt it to the needs of CFC as required in a consultancy basis, winning the Great British Care Awards for Workforce Development at the National Finals in 2023.

The provision has taken many forms over the years depending on need and we believe we are unique in our approach; Online support through Teams or by phone continued throughout Covid lockdowns as was one reason Liz was nominated and won Outstanding Contribution to Social Care at the Great British Care Awards (East Midlands) 2021.

Support groups facilitated in a café style format, ran weekly; one group for relatives of our family members, a staff wellbeing group, a carers group and a community group, throughout 2022 and 2023.
